The Mood of "'night Mother"

I wanted to mention the mood of this play and how I think the author creates this mood. First off, the mood is both mysterious and haunting. The idea of mysterious mood results from two things: at the beginning of the play Jessie continuously asks here mother for seemingly unrelated items which she add to her growing collection until we discover they are all tools to commit suicide, and also, when her mother guesses at reasons for why she would want to kill herself, Jessie either says mama's guess is not the reason or avoids responding by making unrelated comments, preparing her mother for life without her daughter to take care of her. The idea of a haunting mood has to do with the attitude displayed by Jessie concerning her upcoming suicide. She express no depression, anger, strong resentment, she just goes about the daily routine politely chats with her mother as if it were a normal day.
